Inspired by the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling, two brothers have created the band, Harry and the Potters.

The band has toured throughout the United States and United Kingdom. Public libraries and bookstores are the usual venue for the band’s performances, but on July 9, they will be performing at the Caterina Winery in Spokane.

Joe, 20, and Paul DeGeorge, 28, formed their music group for an impromptu concert for their friends in their own backyard in 2002.

It took them one hour to create the act, which consisted of seven songs inspired by the book series.

The two brothers whose stage names are “Harry, age 7,” and “Harry, age 4,” sing songs based on the books’ themes.

"These books have changed so many people's lives in such a positive way," Paul said. "We were inspired by that. We wanted to use the band as a way to both keep kids involved in reading and maybe get them interested in rocking."

Since then, they have made six albums. Their songs subjects range from the tears of Draco Malfoy to fighting with their beloved Professor Dumbledore. The lyrics are recognizable to most who have read the books. "They'd certainly have to know the books to follow the lyrics. Without having read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it might be difficult to parse the true brilliance of lines like, "Maybe you shouldn't have brought up Cedric Diggory, because I'd rather not talk about your dead ex-boyfriends over coffee," said Paul in a 2005 interview with U.S. News.

Patrick Kendrick, the booking manager at Caterina Winery, first saw the band when they performed at The Shop in the south hill area of Spokane last year.

"I thought they were amazing,” Kendrick said. “I realized our large patio out front would be a great place to see them." For those who have not read the books, it is the band's hope that listeners will get more involved with not just reading the Harry Potter series, but reading and rocking in general.

According to their Web site, www.eskimolabs.com, for those that bring a book report on any of the books chosen by the band, they will receive a Harry and the Potter toothbrush. Their list consists of "Catcher in the Rye," Books from the "His Dark Materials Trilogy," "Wise Blood," "Extremely Loud and Extremely Close," and "The Giver."

To match the theme of their songs the singers start their set wearing v-neck sweaters, ties and each of the them wearing a pair of round, black-rimmed glasses in the style of the fictional character, Harry Potter.

The winery is located at 905 N Washington Street, in the Broadview Dairy building, in Spokane. The show price is $5 for all ages and begins at 8 P.M.
